His wife, Lillian, is a chef and is currently writing a book on crocodile meat recipes. Son, Jason, manages the farm and the abattoir. The property is open to tourists The farm is situated on 280 acres of coastal marine flats about half an hour east of Rockhampton in Central Queensland. It is relatively untouched natural habitat, and has a diverse range of flora and fauna; and there are programs in place to attract more. Intensive training courses over 5 days (and nights) will teach you the basics of interaction with crocodiles. The course covers everything from crocodile anatomy, behaviour, hatching, and handling of crocs, from hatchling through to adult. It is not compulsory to handle the larger crocs, should you feel in any way uncomfortable. Activities while on the farm are seasonal but may include: Hatching of young crocodiles Feeding and food preparation Veterinarian work Handling of crocodiles Grading for size Processing (through the onsite abattoir) Taxidermy Maintenance of controlled habitats Plant studies and identification Vegetation control Erosion Control Bird monitoring Tour guiding Conservation ethics and management General farm improvements (gardening, beautification) Normal farm hours are from 8am through 4pm. While living on site, food is provided for your own preparation for breakfast and dinner, whereas your lunch will be provided for in the restaurant…the Crocpot…everyday. There will also be occasions when everyone is invited to an evening in the main house, to socialise with the family and talk crocs. On the field trips upriver, all meals will be provided . |
