Food Trail Tours

The Mareeba Food Trail Tour is a full day, on the tropical food trail, departing Cairns, and the northern beaches, four days a week. It takes you to the Northern Cairns Highlands, which is a dry part of what used to be called the Atherton Tablelands.

Your day will be a tropical, food, wine and sightseeing extravaganza, and there is a different experience to imerse yourself in, at every stop.

Expect, unexpected tastes, as you immerse yourself in the lifestyles of the people, and taste your way around the very different, dry tropics.

Your day will be a really tasty one, with seven stops.

  • A guided walk among tropical fruit trees

  • Your morning tea, is a local speciality, served out bush

  • The wild Mareeba rock wallabies are looking forward to your visit.
They know you will be feeding them.

  • Hear all about growing our Australian bush nut, the macadamia, on a macadamia plantation tour.

  • The all inclusive lunch, features Barramundi, tropical fruits, salad, and tropical fruit juice, with locally produced tropical accompaniments. If you can’t eat seafood an alternative can be arranged, on the day.

  • Tour a coffee plantation, meet the farmer, and indulge in his delightful, and very special, coffee.

  • You have an appointment with a tropical fruit wine maker to taste his wines, ports and creams.

With the addition of sweet treats, and a hint of chocolate, there is something for you all, and different things to eat, or drink at every stop.

On guided farm tours, hear how your favourite foods and tropical fruit wines are produced in tropical Australia. You will often hear it from the farmers you meet, and who do the daily work on their plantations.

Within the dry tropics there are two types of landscapes. Parts have huge granite outcrops, with sandy soils, and other areas have rich, red volcanic soils. The natural flora features stunted eucalyptus, grevilleas, and savannah grasses.

A massive irrigation scheme has turned the whole area into a tropical food bowl, capable of growing almost anything.
Conspicuous in their absence are, other coaches, souvenir shops, and all the other tourists.

You will be taken off the beaten track, down back roads, to private farms, and out of the way places, with exceptional produce.

Let an experienced tour guide take away the hassle of driving on unfamiliar roads, at the edge of the outback, while keeping you entertained with amazing information about the area.

Food Trail Tours guides know exactly where to turn, and where to go.
-- You won't be having arguments over the maps.
