The post office49kms west of Proston is the historic Boondooma Homestead complex. It represents a step back in time to 1847 when the Lawson brothers and Robert Alexander established Boondooma Station, the name being aboriginal for 'a hole dug in the sand from which to obtain a drink'.  As with most isolated stations in the early days, it was built with all the basic necessities, similar to a small village.  The Stone Building which was built in the late 1850's is beleived to be one of Australia's earliest structures built to metric measurements.
